Step 1: Select Themes

The first step requires you to log in to your Shopify store and move to the admin page. Once there, click on the ‘Online Store’ and visit your store’s ‘Themes’ section.

Step 2: Click Edit code

Once you’ve clicked on the themes section, the platform takes you to a list of themes that are present on the platform. From here, you can select any one of the themes by clicking on ‘Actions’, followed by ‘Edit’ code.

Step 3: Select the edited file

The third step requires you to select the edited file. In this step, you need to explore and click on the edited file to which you want to amend changes. Once you’ve accessed the directory, click the file.

Step 4: Press on Older versions

Once you’ve accessed the directory and selected the file, you’ll notice a number of older versions next to the file’s name on top. Select the older versions to access the previous versions of your theme.

Step 5: Choose the older version you want

Once you’ve been able to have a clear view of the ‘Older versions of your theme, select any one of the themes that you want to restore. You can look at the timestamp and ensure the version you want to roll back to. Once done, click Save.

1. How do I delete my Shopify theme and start again?

Starting over with a Shopify store might be a complicated process. Why? Shopify does not come with a Delete/wipe option where you can simply clear all the settings and pages of your store to start afresh.

However, there are a few steps that you can follow in the process that will help you start over again! Let’s have a look: 

  1. You can select ‘Bulk Actions’, to delete any of the collections, products, pages, or customers from your store. 
  2. Once you’ve selected the bulk items you want to delete, the next step is to delete the applications, shipping rates, and other orders. However, if you’re just walking through the process, there isn’t much to do at your store. 
  3. Talking of the theme, downloading an updated version of your current theme or an entirely new theme will help you reset any existing code changes that you have made previously. 
  4. However, it should be noted that many options which you have changed in your Shopify admin’s settings cannot be reverted. Therefore, in order to ensure that you’ve reset such settings, we suggest walking through the different options.
  5. Here’s another option! You can also either delete or close this account and begin with a completely fresh start with a new Trial store. Here you can start over from scratch and select a new domain from myshopify.co. However, once done, you can also fix a custom domain to the website. This way, the customers won’t be using the previous site, saving you from any impact.

2. How do I restore my default theme?

Restoring to your default theme is really easy; all you need to do is follow the steps we’ve listed previously and from your Shopify admin settings, move to the ‘Themes’ section.

Here, you can find a list of all the different versions of your theme, along with a timestamp. To move to any of the previously selected themes here, just roll back to that version. Or, you could also choose a completely new theme option. 

3. How do I roll back my Shopify theme?

All you need to do is follow the suggested steps to roll back to your older Shopify theme. Let’s have a look:

Step 1: Select ‘Themes’ from your Shopify admin page

Step 2: Click on the ‘Edit code’ to edit the codes of your theme.

Step 3: Select the latest edited file

Step 4: Now select from any of the previous versions of your store’s themes 

Step 5: Select the older version that you want to switch back to by looking at the timestamp of the theme version.

4. How do I remove a theme from Shopify?
